Rays to face the Yankees in FCL playoffs: Rays enfrentarán a los Yankees en playoffs de la FCL

Well, the first impression rose would not go to the Rays.  If you watched today's game against the Mets, straight out the gate, Mets hit it hard and heavy, which seemed to intimidate the Rays, as they did not score until the seventh inning, which is really when the game started, at least in my opinion.  Agree?

Bueno, la primera impresión rosa no iría a los Rayos.  Si viste el juego de hoy contra los Mets, directamente por la puerta, los Mets lo golpearon fuerte y pesado, lo que pareció intimidar a los Rays, ya que no anotaron hasta la séptima entrada, que es realmente cuando comenzó el juego, al menos en mi opinión.  ¿Convenir?

At that point, the Rays had nothing on the board, and the Mets were up by two.  When one got on base, it was not the spirit lifter.  It was like okay, let's just try not to strike out, people nervous with no runs.

En ese momento, los Rays no tenían nada en la pizarra, y los Mets estaban arriba por dos.  Cuando uno llegaba a la base, no era el levantador de espíritus.  Estaba como si estuviera bien, tratemos de no golpear, gente nerviosa sin carreras.

The moment his foot hit the field, I just had this feeling.  I already knew.  I watched it play out.

It was not the first pitch.  It didn't just happen like that.  That's the warm-up pitch.

I just knew he was going to hit a homerun to even up the game.  Sure enough.  He did.

When he did hit it, that solid crack of the ball hitting the wood could be heard nearly echoing, though maybe that's just because I was sitting behind home plate.  It was loud, like a giant thumping on a door.  Seemingly, as if the ball was propelled by a rocket, it soared over the fence of the bullpen. 

Cuando lo golpeó, esa grieta sólida de la pelota golpeando la madera casi se podía escuchar resonando, aunque tal vez eso fuera solo porque estaba sentado detrás del home plate.  Era ruidoso, como un gigante golpeando una puerta.  Aparentemente, como si la pelota fuera propulsada por un cohete, se elevó sobre la cerca del bullpen. 

Once everyone realized what that meant, that the guy on base was running in, as well as the guy who hit the ball, making it two runs that would even up the score, the place erupted like a volcano, cheering spewing, as guys run onto the field, causing the umpire to yell at them in Spanish after a while, as now everyone was into the game.  If you had been passively watching, you were now in, wondering who was going to take the win.  That's why, I say, that's really when the game began, a true fight to the finish.

They went back and forth, causing people to doubt and wonder.  Bets start flying like baseballs.  Which one will be the victor in this first game of the FLC playoffs?

Iban y venían, haciendo que la gente dudara y se preguntara.  Las apuestas comienzan a volar como pelotas de béisbol.  ¿Cuál será el vencedor en este primer partido de los playoffs de la FLC?

Rays had the most wins overall coming into the game.  That's why my money was on them from the start.  It's sheer numbers.

Los Rays tuvieron la mayor cantidad de victorias en general en el juego.  Es por eso que mi dinero estaba en ellos desde el principio.  Son números.

Would they prove it wrong?  Would the Mets desire to win outweigh the statistics?  Nobody knew.

¿Demostrarían que estaba equivocado?  ¿El deseo de los Mets de ganar superaría las estadísticas?  Nadie lo sabía.

What I knew is that tying up the game rallied up the Rays, as could be heard from their hooting, hollering, and battle cries, which may have worked to intimidate the Mets right back. You have to turn the tables of intimidation, switch it right back, and have the team's enthusiasm backing.  That's how they mustered up the motivation to pull off a last-minute win, at least in my opinion.

Lo que sabía es que empatar el juego reunió a los Rays, como se podía escuchar en sus gritos, gritos y gritos de batalla, lo que puede haber funcionado para intimidar al lateral derecho de los Mets. Hay que cambiar las tornas de la intimidación, cambiarlo de nuevo y tener el entusiasmo del equipo respaldando.  Así es como reunieron la motivación para lograr una victoria de último minuto, al menos en mi opinión.

I tried telling a coach that one time.  "One inning can change an entire game.  Don't lose faith."

In this case at least, it proved to be true.  Rays had nothing on the board until the seventh inning, then they were not going to take no for an answer.  When things looked the gloomiest, the Rays shined.

Al menos en este caso, resultó ser cierto.  Los Rays no tuvieron nada en la pizarra hasta la séptima entrada, entonces no iban a aceptar un no por respuesta.  Cuando las cosas parecían más sombrías, los Rayos brillaban.

The game had been dragging on so much so up to that point, that it did not take long after that for one of the umpires to have to call it quits, that hot sun beating down on him.  Though he walked off the field, you could see someone holding the back of his pants, just to be sure, in case he should fall.  That serves as a reminder not only to wear sunblock, sunglasses and stay hydrated, but you have to imagine how these players feel running around in the hot sun as well, as it makes you lag and fall out.

El juego se había estado arrastrando tanto hasta ese momento, que no pasó mucho tiempo después de eso para que uno de los árbitros tuviera que dejarlo, ese sol caliente golpeando sobre él.  Aunque salió del campo, se podía ver a alguien sosteniendo la parte posterior de sus pantalones, solo para estar seguro, en caso de que se cayera.  Eso sirve como un recordatorio no solo para usar bloqueador solar, gafas de sol y mantenerse hidratado, sino que también debe imaginar cómo se sienten estos jugadores corriendo bajo el sol caliente, ya que te hace retrasarte y caerte.

There's no telling when an emergency situation might happen.  It's best to be cautious.  Heat stroke is real, especially in the peak Florida sun, hottest part of the day, feeling in the triple digits.

No se sabe cuándo podría ocurrir una situación de emergencia.  Es mejor ser cauteloso.  El golpe de calor es real, especialmente en el pico de sol de Florida, la parte más calurosa del día, sintiéndose en los tres dígitos.

Of course, when it was game on, the Rays had only been building up energy, anxious to make a comeback in a major way.  Mets must have felt their bloodlust to win.  Sometimes, people play the intimidation card, and you have to play it right back, to let them know that you don't play that way.

Por supuesto, cuando estaba en juego, los Rays solo habían estado acumulando energía, ansiosos por regresar de una manera importante.  Los Mets deben haber sentido su sed de sangre para ganar.  A veces, la gente juega la carta de la intimidación, y tienes que jugar de vuelta, para hacerles saber que no juegas de esa manera.

Maybe the Rays only pretended like they were intimidated.  Maybe they purposely didn't score for those innings, just to let the Mets get comfortable, to let them think that they had been oh so intimidating, but those Rays have a stinger on them.  If a stingray can take out the Alligator Hunter, then the Rays can take out the Mets, and they did, as if with ease at the end, like they'd been fooling.

Tal vez los Rays solo fingieron que estaban intimidados.  Tal vez a propósito no anotaron para esas entradas, solo para dejar que los Mets se sintieran cómodos, para hacerles pensar que habían sido tan intimidantes, pero esos Rayos tienen un aguijón en ellos.  Si una raya puede eliminar al Cazador de Caimanes, entonces los Rays pueden eliminar a los Mets, y lo hicieron, como si fuera con facilidad al final, como si hubieran estado engañando.

Either way, it was a battle until the end, finally feeling like a true fight for the championship.  Who is going to take the ultimate win of the FCL playoffs?  Find out when the Rays face the Yankees.
