Once again, we found ourselves at Trump National in Doral, Florida, for the Fourth of July. Being time to set up Pyrotechnics again, it only meant that it was time to start sweating in the Florida sun for days on end. When we talk about pyrotechnics, we’re not talking about the type that are from the stand on the side of the road kind, but the kind that you have to have guarded 24-hours-a-day, as they’re considered large explosives.

That type of power requires a sturdy base to ignite from, and when you’re setting up in the middle of a golf course, that means you have to build it by hand in the sun when the VIP’s are not teeing off. Sure, pilots want to give passengers a nice view and all - but safety comes first - so flight patterns over the pyrotechnics need to halt at least an hour before the show, which doesn’t always happen as it should.

That’s the not-so-glamorous side of things. Work extended hours on the Fourth, as setting up and tearing down happens as fast as possible, so people can play the following day. There’s the scramble behind the scenes that most people don’t realize takes so long to build and disassemble, as well as picking up all the shrapnel and debris.

No, when it’s a golf course, field, or barge in the middle of the ocean, it requires time to prepare for the big shows put on by the city.

It’s not a backyard barbecue, as we miss out on those festivities; this is a real show to entertain and amaze people from a ways away, where they can see it explode the sky.

When you hear that mortar drop, and the sound makes you jump as it’s blown to smithereens, illuminating the sky, you’ll know you’re at our show, as you’ll be singing and dancing along with the synchronized music as each firework colorfully explodes.
