Field of Dreams Crossroads

After having Halloween ruined by an ordeal of getting in trouble for screaming at a haunted house, ridiculous at best, I was in a bit of a bad mood to say the least, but my spirits lifted when a friend scolded me for not paying attention to who was coming to town in Port Charlotte.  “The Bad Boy Toyz Guys are up to it again,” she exclaimed excitedly.  “Check out the Field of Dreams event that they have coming up at the Charlotte County Fairground, as you know the bands.”

Sure enough, she was right.  There were a few familiar names on the bill.  “It’s the best event - that’s about the closest and coolest thing that we have coming here to Port Charlotte,” she said.

A little farther than stumbling distance from home, there’s a couple days’ worth of cool music heading to Southwest Florida, a city nestled between Fort Myers and Sarasota on the Gulf Coast.  The Field of Dreams is advertised to be the Crossroads of Country and Rock and Roll, featuring some familiar artists on both Nov. 14and 15th for two days of musical entertainment.  Friday, Nov. 14th, Kami Kehoe, P.O.D., Daughtry, and Seether will perform, and on Saturday, Nov. 15th, the tunes turn more county with Gavin Adcock and others performing classic country.

Un poco más lejos de la distancia de casa, hay un par de días de música genial rumbo al suroeste de Florida, una ciudad enclavada entre Fort Myers y Sarasota en la costa del Golfo. The Field of Dreams se anuncia como la encrucijada del Country y el Rock and Roll, con algunos artistas conocidos el 14 y el 15 de noviembre para dos días de entretenimiento musical. Now, I’m not even going to lie and pretend that I am super familiar with all things country, even though I have covered a few country concerts that were larger than their metal counterparts.  That being said, you don’t have to be a huge country fan to have a good time.  There’s going to be plenty of fun for al the experience at the Charlotte County Fairgrounds coming up.

Ahora, ni siquiera voy a mentir y fingir que estoy súper familiarizado con todo lo relacionado con el country, a pesar de que he cubierto algunos conciertos de country que fueron más grandes que sus contrapartes de metal. Friday is the day with the bands I am more familiar with, having toured on Ozzfest 2002 with both P.O.D. and Seether, covering both bands many times since.  One of our fellow Ozzfest alumni had toured with Daughtry back in the day, which made me more familiar with the band than I had been before he had joined the tour, to say the least.  There’s so many people from the Ozzfest alumni collection, which does not always only include the big stars that people see on stage, but the people behind the scenes that most might not pay attention to, but they’re there regardless, often putting in more hours and more tour dates than the stars on the stage.

El viernes es el día con las bandas con las que estoy más familiarizado, habiendo girado en Ozzfest 2002 con P.O.D. y Seether, cubriendo ambas bandas muchas veces desde entonces. Uno de nuestros compañeros exalumnos de Ozzfest había estado de gira con Daughtry en su día, lo que me hizo más familiarizado con la banda de lo que había estado antes de que se uniera a la gira, por decir lo menos. After I was pulled on stage by Rob Zombie and given the opportunity to join the tour, I first sent my friend, who recently passed, to make sure everything was what they said it was, then I went.  When they told me that I would be a “Harley Girl,” I thought it would be like selling motorcycle gear or whatever, not thinking in a million years that it meant modeling on a motorcycle, as I never thought of myself as model beautiful, especially being the journalist who is typically behind the camera, but given the opportunity and the fact that I was dropped off by a person sent from the syndicate in a town far from my own, and that I had my people in place with eyes on me to help ensure my safety, I decided to roll with the punches and just do whatever was needed, not thinking I’d soon be driving on top of modeling, as I was not a drinker and had a license, which was really the only qualification that was needed, compared to a drunk driver.  This is the setting the stage to how I was when I strolled into my interview with Seether, which was after driving through one of the most hellacious storms in Wisconsin, illegal triple trailer, no interior lights working, no way to see the fuel gage, headlights pretty much shot, but the lightning was so bright, it was almost like flashes during the day, then back to night to drive – and when I arrive, it’s so cold, like the coldest place in most the gigs, that none of the other girls want to show any skin, curling up in blankets, wearing sweatpants and the opposite of sexy; meaning, somebody has to sacrifice themselves to the cold, and that someone was me.

Después de que Rob Zombie me subiera al escenario y me diera la oportunidad de unirme a la gira, primero envié a mi amigo, que falleció recientemente, para asegurarme de que todo era lo que decían que era, luego fui. Just out of sheer bravery for how cold it was, I wound up with a mountain of Mardi Gras beads around my neck, and I didn’t have time on my break to re-dress, or even take the beads off for that matter, so you’d have to picture these South American dudes meeting me for the first time, wearing a skimpy outfit and a mound of shiny, plastic beads around my neck, rushing on break, asking them my silly personality questions about unicorns and yogurt just to be silly.  They had to be scratching their heads a little on that one, but they might not even remember after all the interviews that they’ve done a couple decades and a half later.  Oh, how time flies having fun.

Solo por pura valentía por el frío que hacía, terminé con una montaña de cuentas de Mardi Gras alrededor de mi cuello, y no tuve tiempo en mi descanso para volver a vestirme, o incluso quitarme las cuentas para el caso, así que tendrías que imaginarte a estos tipos sudamericanos conociéndome por primera vez, usando un atuendo escaso y un montículo de cuentas de plástico brillantes alrededor de mi cuello, corriendo en el descanso, haciéndoles mis preguntas tontas de personalidad sobre unicornios y yogur solo para ser tontos. It's always funny for me to hear stories of the first time I met someone, and that’s one first meeting that was especially memorable to me, as I had not only just recently joined the tour, but after not only the hellacious drive, but being greeted by extremely cold weather in a make-shift skimpy outfit that consisted of a sheer black with red glitter polka dot underwear set, totally unmatched by a baggy pair of Joe Boxers that had pastel colored fish on them – baggy to the point that I had to tuck the boxers into my thong to keep them from falling off of me.  I’m not a big name brand clothing person, but I remember my outfit that day, as it was literally all that I had, as I didn’t even get to go through my luggage, and simply took off the pajamas that I had borrowed from Tommy, which was like flannel reindeer pants if I remember correctly.  Tommy was one of those behind the scenes people that liked to raise a ruckus with my buddy Mack, and the two of them invented the now infamous kick me in the head game, where they not only had crowd members attempt to kick a half deflated soccer ball at their heads, but they also were known to get loud and obnoxious with megaphones to rile up people -  just like me.

Siempre es divertido para mí escuchar historias de la primera vez que conocí a alguien, y ese es un primer encuentro que fue especialmente memorable para mí, ya que no solo me había unido recientemente a la gira, sino no solo después del infernal viaje, sino de ser recibido por un clima extremadamente frío en un atuendo escaso improvisado que consistía en un conjunto de ropa interior negro transparente con lunares rojos, totalmente inigualable por un par de Joe Boxers holgados que tenían peces de color pastel en ellos, hasta el punto de que tuve que meter los bóxers en mi tanga para Evitar que se caigan de mí. No soy una gran persona de ropa de marca, pero recuerdo mi atuendo de ese día, ya que era literalmente todo lo que tenía, ya que ni siquiera llegué a revisar mi equipaje, y simplemente me quité el pijama que le había pedido prestado a Tommy, que era como pantalones de reno de franela, si no recuerdo mal. They’d often set us up next to each other, just so we could have megaphone wars with each other, talking smack to each other, acting as if we’re fighting, without people knowing that’s my brother from another mother who described me as, “the sister I always had and never wanted.”  Now, I have permission from is daughter and sister to tell it like it was, so I’m not going to paint him as being a typical good guy to most people, as he was one of the biggest con artist I’d ever known, but he was also the guy who could get me in when my typical methods might ever fail.  Whenever we couldn’t walk through the front door, he’d find a way in through the back door.

Mack was the type who could sell you something you just threw away, and there’s something to be said about street style sales techniques.  One of those techniques involves gathering a crowd by creating a ruckus, so we’d partner up daily, yelling obscenities at each other and the crowd.  It makes people stop, and when they pause, it’s as bad as making eye contact, as you’re already on the hook for whatever it is they’re selling, which is usually just a dream, as the prizes were what they’d be giving away at the end of the day, the CDs they hand out at the end of the concert at each show, maybe a t-shirt if they’re lucky, but usually it’s the dream of winning.

Mack era del tipo que podía venderte algo que acabas de tirar, y hay algo que decir sobre las técnicas de venta de estilo callejero. Una de esas técnicas implica reunir a una multitud creando un alboroto, por lo que nos asociamos a diario, gritándonos obscenidades unos a otros y a la multitud. That’s the way of the carnie crier.  That’s a whole other topic.  Let’s get back to the bands.

So, P.O.D. also toured with us on that year, and I cannot even count the number of times that I have covered either Seether or P.O.D., as I always seem to run into them in different places.  Probably the most memorable P.O.D. moment was I believe on the Uproar Festival, maybe around 2012 if memory serves me, and this would have been at the Detroit stop that year.

That’s when I met Sonny’s son for the first time.  Back then, he was just a young thing.  He’s still considered to be young by most now, but he’s already grown enough to be a drum tech!

Rumor has it that he’s not only been working as a drum tech, but I can only imagine he’s building the skills that it takes to launch his own career before too long.  That means, you best be on the lookout for this rising star, as his dad’s been touring more than 30 years now, laying that foundation for his son to rise faster than most by being more experienced than most.  I know good things will be coming from that one, so you best be watching this man rise up.

Se rumorea que no solo ha estado trabajando como técnico de batería, sino que solo puedo imaginar que está desarrollando las habilidades que se necesitan para lanzar su propia carrera antes de mucho tiempo. Eso significa que es mejor que estés atento a esta estrella en ascenso, ya que su padre ha estado de gira por más de 30 años, sentando las bases para que su hijo se levante más rápido que la mayoría al tener más experiencia que la mayoría. Sé que las cosas buenas vendrán de eso, así que es mejor que veas a este hombre levantarse.

Now, honestly, I’m not sure which band was scarier to watch last time.  So, with Seether, last time I saw them at Fort Rock in Fort Myers, part of the stage came crashing down mid-set, resulting in the guitar player dodging falling stage items that could’ve seriously hurt him.  On the other hand, with P.O.D., last time I saw them at the House of Blues in Orlando with Jinjer, and that band was recalling the horrors of having their house bombed multiple times in the Ukraine, like as soon as they rebuilt, another bomb destroyed it all again, which is honestly very scary.

Ahora, honestamente, no estoy seguro de qué banda fue más aterradora para ver la última vez. Así que, con Seether, la última vez que los vi en Fort Rock en Fort Myers, parte del escenario se derrumbó a mitad del set, lo que hizo que el guitarrista esquivara la caída de elementos del escenario que podrían haberlo lastimado seriamente. Theme park drama: Drama del parque temático

Recently, I was banned for attempting to de-escalate an unnecessary escalating situation with an individual that had a brain injury. The situation is almost comical, as the individual with the brain injury got in trouble for screaming under a sign that said scream. The security that approached this individual was obviously not trained in how to handle people with mental disabilities, as a threatening and escalating tone was looking like it could potentially lead to an unnecessary situation, which is where I stepped in to try to prevent that from happening.

Recientemente, me prohibieron por intentar reducir una situación de escalada innecesaria con un individuo que tenía una lesión cerebral. La situación es casi cómica, ya que la persona con la lesión cerebral se metió en problemas por gritar bajo un cartel que decía gritar. La seguridad que se acercó a este individuo obviamente no estaba capacitada en cómo manejar a las personas con discapacidades mentales, ya que un tono amenazante y creciente parecía que potencialmente podría conducir a una situación innecesaria, que es donde intervine para tratar de evitar que eso sucediera.

Now, I cannot attempt to explain the thought process of someone who has a traumatic brain injury, as things get jumbled around in their head. What I do know is that this particular theme park, Busch Gardens in Tampa, had multiple signs throughout the park, saying that they were now hiring screamers for Howl-O-Scream, so whether this guy thought that this was his big Hollywood audition, or whatever the thought process of seeing a sign that said scream, he literally screamed as he was walking out of the park, right as they were starting their Howl-O-Scream celebration. After screaming, this individual proceeded to dance the funky chicken, which was more of a sign of him having a good time than anything else in my opinion, but they seem to see it as some sort of a threat.

Ahora, no puedo intentar explicar el proceso de pensamiento de alguien que tiene una lesión cerebral traumática, ya que las cosas se mezclan en su cabeza. Lo que sí sé es que este parque temático en particular, Busch Gardens en Tampa, tenía múltiples carteles en todo el parque, diciendo que ahora estaban contratando gritos para Howl-O-Scream, así que ya sea que este tipo pensara que esta era su gran audición de Hollywood, o cualquiera que sea el proceso de pensamiento de ver un cartel que decía gritar, literalmente gritó mientras salía del parque, justo cuando estaban comenzando su celebración de Howl-O-Scream. Después de gritar, este individuo procedió a bailar el pollo funky, que era más una señal de que se lo estaba pasando bien que cualquier otra cosa en mi opinión, pero parecen verlo como una especie de amenaza.

Let’s clarify that I did not know this individual was going to scream, but I did hear him scream. It was not an immediate response to the scream, as security approached him as he was dancing. I didn’t even really know what was going on at the time, as I was filming the pyrotechnics display at the entrance of the park, and as I was filming, I noticed the security getting into the frame of my shot.

Aclaremos que no sabía que este individuo iba a gritar, pero lo escuché gritar. No fue una respuesta inmediata al grito, ya que la seguridad se acercó a él mientras bailaba. Not entirely hearing the whole conversation, I could see the individual with the brain injury was getting extremely frustrated, as he was trying to explain that he screamed underneath a sign that said scream. He did not understand why he was in trouble, and the security guard was not doing anything to calm him down, only escalate the situation, further frustrating this individual.  As a witness to a scream, I simply approached and asked if he was in trouble for screaming underneath the scream sign, letting him know that I had seen him, and trying to intervene in as a neutral party.

Al no escuchar toda la conversación, pude ver que el individuo con la lesión cerebral se estaba frustrando mucho, ya que estaba tratando de explicar que gritaba debajo de un letrero que decía gritar. No entendía por qué estaba en problemas, y el guardia de seguridad no estaba haciendo nada para calmarlo, solo escaló la situación, frustrando aún más a este individuo. Como testigo de un grito, simplemente me acerqué y le pregunté si estaba en problemas por gritar debajo del signo de grito, haciéndole saber que lo había visto y tratando de intervenir como un partido neutral.

To continuously escalate the situation, security kept calling for backup, when this individual is literally just asking what he did wrong, trying to literally explain his side of the situation to a person who did not want to hear it and only wanted to get more security involved. Most people might not intervene in a situation like this, but when you know that an individual has a brain injury, and you see them getting frustrated to the point that they are turning red and shaking, you know there is a potential for that person to not be able to handle themselves properly, which is when you have to approach with a calm tone. Letting the frustrated party know that someone hears them can be the start of deescalation, which it was at the time.

Para escalar continuamente la situación, la seguridad siguió pidiendo respaldo, cuando este individuo literalmente solo pregunta qué hizo mal, tratando de explicar literalmente su versión de la situación a una persona que no quería escucharlo y solo quería involucrar a más seguridad. Es posible que la mayoría de la gente no intervenga en una situación como esta, pero cuando sabes que un individuo tiene una lesión cerebral, y lo ves frustrándose hasta el punto de que se está poniendo rojo y temblando, sabes que hay un potencial para que esa persona no sea capaz de manejarse adecuadamente, que es cuando tienes que acercarte con un tono tranquilo. Hacer saber a la parte frustrada que alguien los escucha puede ser el comienzo de la desescalada, que fue en ese momento.

As a teacher who works with students who have developmental disabilities, and are at-risk youth, I can spot an escalating situation when I see one.  By my stepping in, it allows a neutral third-party to be able to step in between two frustrated individuals to prevent any violence from occurring, whether that security guard realized it or not. In my opinion, I did prevent violence from occurring before other back up arrived, but my actions only got me banned for a year from the park.

Como profesor que trabaja con estudiantes que tienen discapacidades del desarrollo y son jóvenes en riesgo, puedo detectar una situación creciente cuando veo una. Al intervenir, permite que un tercero neutral pueda interponerse entre dos individuos frustrados para evitar que ocurra violencia, ya sea que ese guardia de seguridad se diera cuenta o no. En mi opinión, evité que ocurriera la violencia antes de que llegaran otros respaldos, pero mis acciones solo me expulsaron del parque durante un año.

The individual with the brain injury also got banned for a year from the park. To some, this might not seem like a big deal. However, when you take into the fact that the event literally has scream in its name, and they have multiple signs saying that they are hiring screamers throughout the park, it does kind of give the implication that screaming may be allowed at the event, which I could see how that could be confusing to an individual with a brain Injury.

El individuo con la lesión cerebral también fue expulsado del parque durante un año. Para algunos, esto puede no parecer un gran problema. Sin embargo, cuando tomas en cuenta el hecho de que el evento literalmente tiene gritos en su nombre, y tienen múltiples carteles diciendo que están contratando gritos en todo el parque, da la implicación de que los gritos pueden estar permitidos en el evento, lo que podría ver cómo eso podría ser confuso para una persona con una lesión cerebral.

While the park might like to claim that it’s private property and they can ban whoever they like, the reality is if they ban one person for screaming, who is the next person they will ban for screaming? Taking into the fact that you have a theme park with roller coasters, with multiple haunted houses, with signs that encourage screaming, and as the security guard is yelling at this individual for screaming, you can hear multiple other individuals screaming in the background on roller coasters and at the haunted houses.  It seems counterintuitive to yell at one person for screaming, if you’re not going to yell at every single person who screams, but that’s just my observation.

Si bien al parque le gustaría afirmar que es propiedad privada y que pueden prohibir a quien quieran, la realidad es que si prohíben a una persona por gritar, ¿quién es la siguiente persona que prohibirán por gritar? Teniendo en cuenta el hecho de que tienes un parque temático con montañas rusas, con múltiples casas encantadas, con carteles que fomentan los gritos, y mientras el guardia de seguridad le grita a este individuo por gritar, puedes escuchar a varios otros individuos gritando en el fondo en las montañas rusas y en las casas encantadas. Parece contradictorio gritarle a una persona por gritar, si no vas a gritarle a cada persona que grita, pero esa es solo mi observación.

As a teacher, it definitely does not make me feel comfortable, bringing any of my at-risk students who have behavioral problems to the park. My family member has an autistic child who is prone to temper tantrums, and I don’t think that would be a situation that I would want to experience either. Can you imagine being with a kid who gets kicked out of the park and banned for screaming after being on a roller coaster or for having a temper tantrum from being overly tired?

Como profesor, definitivamente no me hace sentir cómodo, traer al parque a ninguno de mis estudiantes en riesgo que tienen problemas de comportamiento. Un miembro de mi familia tiene un hijo autista que es propenso a las rabietas, y tampoco creo que esa sea una situación que me gustaría experimentar. ¿Te imaginas estar con un niño que es expulsado del parque y expulsado por gritar después de estar en una montaña rusa o por tener una rabieta por estar demasiado cansado?

Knowing how many kids out there have temper tantrums and screaming fits, could you imagine getting banned from the park for your kid throwing a temper tantrum?  Actions like this set the precedence. If one individual on the spectrum with the brain injury is not tolerated, how many others will have problems in the future?

Sabiendo cuántos niños hay por ahí tienen rabietas y ataques de gritos, ¿te imaginas que te prohíban el parque porque tu hijo hace una rabieta? Acciones como esta establecen la precedencia. Si un individuo en el espectro con la lesión cerebral no es tolerado, ¿cuántos otros tendrán problemas en el futuro?

More importantly, if I am kicked out for preventing violence, as their security team obviously was not skilled enough or trained enough to handle individuals with brain injuries, or individuals on the spectrum for that matter, then how many other people could get kicked out for trying to break up a situation between frustrated individuals?  By stepping in to ensure safety, I am the one who is punished and banned for a year.

Más importante aún, si me echan por prevenir la violencia, ya que su equipo de seguridad obviamente no era lo suficientemente hábil o entrenado para manejar a personas con lesiones cerebrales, o personas en el espectro para el caso, ¿cuántas otras personas podrían ser expulsadas por tratar de romper una situación entre personas frustradas? Al intervenir para garantizar la seguridad, yo soy el que es castigado y prohibido durante un año.

So, wow, they might say that they kicked me out for causing a disturbance, when I was not the one who was screaming, and I was the one who was attempting to prevent any violence from happening to an untrained security officer who was antagonizing someone with a brain injury who is on the spectrum.  It still makes me wonder if they just don’t like people calling them out on when they do things wrong. Maybe I should’ve sat back, let the individual with the brain injury continue to grow frustrated and have a temper tantrum, which would probably have resulted in the security guide getting hurt, but silly me for a treat to prevent that.

Así que, vaya, podrían decir que me echaron por causar una perturbación, cuando yo no era el que estaba gritando, y yo era el que intentaba evitar que le sucediera violencia a un oficial de seguridad no capacitado que estaba antagonizando a alguien con una lesión cerebral que está en el espectro. Now, in case anyone was wondering, it is a violation of HIPAA to have to explain that someone has a brain injury or is on the spectrum in the first place. It’s also called ableism to have to explain that one disability is equally as bad as another, because people tend to prioritize things, like oh if this person’s in a wheelchair, it must be worse than somebody who has a brain injury, for example. The lack of tolerance and training for people with brain injuries, or people who are on the spectrum, is something that the park should address, but obviously with me being banned, I’m probably not going to influence that decision.

Ahora, en caso de que alguien se lo estuviera preguntando, es una violación de la HIPAA tener que explicar que alguien tiene una lesión cerebral o está en el espectro en primer lugar. También se llama ableísmo tener que explicar que una discapacidad es igual de mala que otra, porque la gente tiende a priorizar cosas, como oh, si esta persona está en una silla de ruedas, debe ser peor que alguien que tiene una lesión cerebral, por ejemplo. La falta de tolerancia y capacitación para personas con lesiones cerebrales, o personas que están en el espectro, es algo que el parque debería abordar, pero obviamente con mi prohibición, probablemente no voy a influir en esa decisión.

Considering that I was a Gold pass member, I was previously told that any unused portion of my gold pass would be refunded. However, they are saying that they don’t have to refund anything because I caused a disturbance, even though I didn’t scream, and I had no incident report given to me about the whole ordeal, and they didn’t even ask my name or for my identification at the time.  Had I kept quiet, they would not have even really known who I was, but when I see something is not right, I say something about it and speak up.

Teniendo en cuenta que yo era miembro del pase Gold, anteriormente me dijeron que cualquier parte no utilizada de mi pase Gold sería reembolsada. Sin embargo, están diciendo que no tienen que reembolsar nada porque causé un disturbio, a pesar de que no grité, y no me dieron ningún informe de incidente sobre todo el calvario, y ni siquiera me preguntaron mi nombre o mi identificación en ese momento. Si me hubiera callado, ni siquiera habrían sabido realmente quién era, pero cuando veo que algo no está bien, digo algo al respecto y hablo.

Guest services previously told me that there is a solution for every problem. Unfortunately, no supervisors or managers actually reached out to solve the problem, other than to simply tell me that I was banned for a year.  So, all I can do is mention the problem, and you can judge the situation for yourself - but if it happened to me, it can also happen to you.

El servicio de atención al cliente me dijo anteriormente que hay una solución para cada problema. Desafortunadamente, ningún supervisor o gerente realmente se puso en contacto para resolver el problema, aparte de simplemente decirme que me prohibieron durante un año. For a theme park that is going to play Pantera, Nine Inch Nails, other metal bands that are prone to screaming and mosh pits, they might want to think about changing their slightly bondage-influenced theme in some of the haunted houses. They might want to think about the audience that they are attracting when they have things like that, as the heavy metal audience is very much known for screaming and mosh pits. If they don’t want those type of people at the park, maybe they should stick to the little kid themes. 

Para un parque temático que va a tocar Pantera, Nine Inch Nails, otras bandas de metal que son propensas a gritar y mosh pits, es posible que quieran pensar en cambiar su tema ligeramente influenciado por el bondage en algunas de las casas embrujadas. Es posible que quieran pensar en la audiencia que están atrayendo cuando tienen cosas así, ya que la audiencia de heavy metal es muy conocida por sus gritos y mosh pits. They might want to change the name of the event to not have scream in it if they don’t want people screaming at the park. They may want to rethink about calling their employees screamers, and having signs that they were hiring screamers, if they do not want people screaming in the park. It can be very confusing for normal individuals, let alone individuals that have brain injuries and are on the spectrum.

Es posible que quieran cambiar el nombre del evento para que no tenga gritos si no quieren que la gente grite en el parque. Es posible que quieran reconsiderar la forma de llamar a sus empleados gritos, y tener señales de que estaban contratando gritos, si no quieren que la gente grite en el parque. Puede ser muy confuso para individuos normales, y mucho menos para individuos que tienen lesiones cerebrales y están en el espectro.

Busch Gardens may want to rethink their advertising techniques. All their advertising that has the word scream them should be changed if they do not want people screaming in the park. Using the word scream, screamers, challenging people to scream at the park, it really makes individuals think that screaming could be allowed to scream at the theme park, and if it’s not, those changes should be implemented immediately to avoid confusion.

Es posible que Busch Gardens quiera repensar sus técnicas de publicidad. Toda su publicidad que tiene la palabra gritarles debería cambiarse si no quieren que la gente grite en el parque. Usar la palabra gritar, gritar, desafiar a la gente a gritar en el parque, realmente hace que las personas piensen que gritar podría permitirse gritar en el parque temático, y si no es así, esos cambios deben implementarse de inmediato para evitar confusiones.

When you can watch an individual go from smiling and dancing to turning red and shaking with frustration, it’s time to intervene. If I got banned for preventing a temper tantrum explosion in an individual with a disability, because their security was not properly trained in how to handle Disabled people, I would do it again in a heartbeat. How do I not been there, who knows how much more they would have antagonize this guy, provoking him to irrupt, merely by frustrating him by not letting him explain his side of the story.

Cuando puedes ver a un individuo pasar de sonreír y bailar a enrojarse y temblar de frustración, es hora de intervenir. Si me prohibieran por evitar una explosión de rabieta en una persona con discapacidad, porque su seguridad no estaba adecuadamente capacitada en cómo manejar a personas discapacitadas, lo volvería a hacer en un abrir y cerrar de ojos. ¿Cómo no he estado allí, quién sabe cuánto más habrían antagonizado a este tipo, provocándolo a irrumpir, simplemente frustrándolo al no dejarle explicar su versión de la historia?

The whole situation could have been handled differently, prevented by proper training.  It really could’ve been prevented by not having scream in the name of the event, saying that they’re hiring screamers, and having advertising that promotes screaming. I’m not the only watchdog out there who is willing to intervene to try to prevent a situation from escalating unnecessarily, so all I can do is encourage others to stand up for what they believe is right.

Toda la situación podría haberse manejado de manera diferente, evitada por un entrenamiento adecuado. Realmente podría haberse evitado no gritar en nombre del evento, decir que están contratando gritos y tener publicidad que promueva gritos. No soy el único organismo de control que está dispuesto a intervenir para tratar de evitar que una situación se intensifique innecesariamente, así que todo lo que puedo hacer es alentar a otros a defender lo que creen que es correcto.

Mind you, this whole ordeal took place outside of the park. This happened as we were leaving the park, not entering it. We had already exited the park, but we were still banned for the whole next year.

Eso sí, todo este calvario tuvo lugar fuera del parque. Esto sucedió cuando salíamos del parque, no entramos en él. Ya habíamos salido del parque, pero aún así estábamos prohibidos durante todo el año siguiente.
