Baseball season has been a nail biter for the Florida Complex League, with many great teams unable to compete in the playoffs, simply since the top seeded of each division advanced based on the total number of wins. Thus, if you were a team that gradually got better over the season, but you didn’t quite have the total number of wins, you did not advance. That being said, there were a number of awesome players on the various teams, and from all the heart and soul that I saw go into the competition, my hat goes off not only to the guys, but to the increasing number of women behind the scenes in baseball.
La temporada de béisbol ha sido un clavo ardiendo para la
Florida Complex League, con muchos grandes equipos incapaces de competir en los
playoffs, simplemente porque los principales cabezas de serie de cada división

It was my honor to have been included in that growing
segment this year. While I cannot say
what I was doing, or who I was working with, I think the cat is out of the bag
that I may have had my hand in the background of sport this year. The only clue is that I was obviously not a
starting player this season.

talk about you, as you know who this coverage has really been for. This is for the players that come in from out
of the area, not knowing anyone here, trying their best to be liked by
everyone, so they get called back next year, which is just an entirely
stressful situation to be put into.

The chopping block constantly hanging over their heads,
never know when one might be released.
Then, there’s the whole anxiety about not knowing if another team will
pick you up or not, and even when they do want you, is that even the team that
you really want to be with in the first place?
One team might be super awesome, with everyone super cool, but it only
takes one person to not like you to make your entire career shaky, shifting the
earth beneath your feet like an earthquake hit unexpectedly.

That’s the reality of the Florida Complex League. It’s not all the fat cats sitting around
counting money. These are the playful
little kittens that are just learning the tricks of the trade, eager and still limber.

I have to give props to all the amazing jumps, slides and
feet flying through the air that I saw this season. It makes my arthritis ache just thinking
about it. That’s why the FCL is so fun
to watch though.

When you put your all out on the line, knowing the effort reaps reward, there’s amazing results. Sure, Yankees might have won the playoffs, as not everyone can win all the time, but there’s individual players on each of the teams that have also made amazing strides throughout the course of the season. Obviously, I’m not allowed to name names or single anyone out, but I’d like to think that just about anyone who gets called up to the FCL from any other location is going to make amazing strides.

This is the training ground.
It’s not just Spring Training. It’s
training them to be ballers, baseballers.

Each of the players are like tools, and the FCL is where
those tools get sharpened. Even a basic
butter knife can be sharpened into a deadly weapon, just like a good ol’ countryside
boy who can hit a ball can sharpened up into a Major Leaguer, given the right
training, nutrition and motivation.
Speaking of motivation, never underestimate how desire can outweigh
ability, and if someone was not a superstar this year, wait until next year,
when they come back with a vengeance, ready to show us what they got.

As mentioned, not everyone can win, but one team did. Going into it, both the Yankees and the Rays
each had a win, so either of them could have taken game three, making it a nail
biter. Each started strong, with neither
side allowing any runs to be scored during the first inning, but that changed.

In the second inning, Yankees demanded a couple runs, and
Rays answered back with a hit to score. Third
inning, the Rays stayed strong, not allowing Yankees the satisfaction of
another score. Instead, they showed them
that they were more than able to even up the score, making it 2-2, at the bottom
of the third, but the Yankees scored yet again in the fourth to yank the lead
back.

seventh. From that point, I blame the
rain. Hearing thunder always throws
people off, then with people trying to rush the game to an end…

Had it not been for the rain, if people would have stayed in
their focused zones and grooves, would the last couple innings have been
different? Or were the Yankees simply
destined to take the trophy? Going in, I
thought the Rays would have had it, as they had the most wins overall, but you
never know.

Sometimes, you get thrown an unexpected curveball. Of course, you might just hit that homerun
though, so keep trying. The FCL players
are constantly striving to improve, so just because the Yankees won it this
year does not mean that they can sit around happy and get fat, as other teams
want revenge.

now, as my bed is calling for me to join it soon.
